Visionary director Takashi Miike is known for his gore-filled samurai films, but he takes it to the next level for his 100th feature, adapted from the manga series of the same name by Hiroaka Samura.
And when the title says “immortal,” it means it—Manji (Takuya Kimura), his body filled with “sacred bloodworms” by a mysterious woman after a lethal battle, is the samurai that doesn’t die. Haunted by the brutal murder of his sister, Manji knows that only fighting evil will restore his soul. He promises to help a young girl named Rin avenge her parents, who were killed by a group of master swordsmen led by ruthless warrior Anotsu. The mission will change Manji in ways he could never imagine. This stylish, irreverent splatter fest shows Miike in top form.
